EN | The Pascal van den Dool Quartet is a recently formed ensemble performing Pascals original compositions and arrangements of jazz standards. Pascal is a 23-year-old pianist, currently finalising a master at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where the other musicians are also active. For the rest, the formation consists of Antonio Onieva on flute, Felipe Cornejo on double bass and Davids Eglitis on drums.

The style has a clear connection to the jazz tradition, but provides an own sound in diverse grooves, rich harmonies and thought out forms of the compositions. Inspiration is drawn from Christianity, but anyone can relate to the ideas behind the compositions. Musical inspiration comes from, among others: Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau and Gerald Clayton.

 

NL | Het Pascal van den Dool Kwartet is een recent gevormd ensemble dat Pascals composities speelt en eigen arrangementen van jazz standards. Pascal is een 23-jarige pianist die momenteel een master afrondt op het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, waar de andere muzikanten ook actief zijn. Verder bestaat de formatie uit Antonio Onieva op fluit, Felipe Cornejo op contrabas en Davids Eglitis op drums.

De stijl heeft een duidelijke connectie met de jazztraditie, maar geeft in verscheidene grooves, rijke harmonie en uitgedachte vorm van de composities een eigen geluid, waarin inspiratie wordt gehaald uit het Christendom. Toch kan iedereen aan de thema’s relateren.  Muzikale inspiratie komt onder meer van Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau en Gerald Clayton.

Complex rhythms and scenic themes get combined in a danceable way and musical spontaneity results in new interpretations of the music each time the band performs.

NL | Jazzfunk-fusionband Wakki mixt energieke funk met vrije jazz en inspiraties uit talloze culturen en stijlen. Wakki is een achtbaanavontuur door een universum gesmeed van de energie van funk en de vrijheid van jazz. Een ronkende machine met oneindige nieuwsgierigheid als brandstof en zes Kosmonauts in de cockpit die je meenemen op een stuntvliegreis door een groovende kosmos met onontdekte dimensies. De nieuwsgierigheid van de bandleden zorgt ervoor dat er talloze stijlen, genres en culturen langskomen: van Snarky Puppy en Fela Kuti tot Led Zeppelin en Pink Floyd, en van Turkse vibes tot straight-up-American funk. Voor iedereen is er iets te herkennen en tegelijkertijd te ontdekken. Wakki is een avontuur waar je naar kunt luisteren en tegelijkertijd op wilt gaan bewegen, waar complexe ritmes met verhalende thema's op een dansbare manier worden neergezet en waar muzikale vrijheid in nummers ervoor zorgt dat ieder optreden anders is.

Wakki is a rollercoaster ride through a universe forged by the energy of funk and the freedom of jazz. With six Kosmonauts in the cockpit this rumbling machine, fueled by endless curiosity, takes you on a daring flight through a grooving cosmos and its undiscovered dimensions. Propelled by their curiosity, Wakki addresses a wide variety of styles, genres and cultures: from Snarky Puppy and Fela Kuti to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, and from Turkish vibes to straight up American funk. For everyone, there's something to recognize and something to discover: it's an adventure that makes you listen and dance at the same time. CONCERT | Frank Montis With Happy Village

Small, compact, intimate, intense and a large dynamic range by playing softly.

NL | Klein, compact, inHem en intens en een groot dynamisch bereik door juist heel zacht te spelen. Dat voelden deze drie heren, al repeterend vanuit een kleine repeHHe ruimte, waar noodgedwongen al doende de deugd ontstond: muzikale interacHe op het hoogste niveau, de kleinste rimpeling in een groovende vijver ervaren, een buigende sax noot opvangen met een zacht grommende hammond sound, de verschillende lagen van de brushes kunnen horen en daarop reageren, ingehouden spel maar met een diepgewortelde swing. Jazz is uiteindelijk een van de mooiste muzikale samenwerkingsverbanden die er bestaan, maar nu voelden MonHs, Dros en Delfos direct dat er iets magisch voorhanden lag. Ontstaan uit de samenwerking in de door Delfos en MonHs opgerichte 7-koppige formaHe leverden het plezier, de aandacht voor het repeteren en het veel bewuster schrijven voor een trio beze^ng een prachHge combinaHe op van transparante songs en muzikale vrijheid. De luisteraar krijgt het gevoel op de eerste rij te zi_en, elke nuance op te merken en wordt het avontuur ingezogen als zijnde een reis naar het einde van een swingende nacht. ‘Oh Lord thou will soffle’, ‘Living in the Clay’, ‘Li_le tonal song’, ‘A foggy night, het zijn filmische Htels en dat is wellicht wat dit trio ook beoogt, namelijk het publiek meenemen vanaf het begin van het concert om pas uit de roes te geraken, wanneer de laatste noot geklonken heed…

These three gentlemen felt that, while rehearsing in a small rehearsal room, where virtue was forced to arise while interacHng at their highest level, experiencing the smallest ripple in a grooving pond, catching a bending sax note with a gentle growling Hammond sound, being able to hear and respond to the different layers of the brushes, restrained play but with a deep-rooted swing. Jazz is ulHmately one of the most beauHful musical collaboraHons that exist, but now Delfos, MonHs and Dros immediately felt that there was something magical at hand. Originated from the collaboraHon in the 7-member formaHon DelMonHs, founded by Delfos and MonHs, the pleasure, the a_enHon for rehearsing and the much more conscious wriHng for a trio line-up resulted in a wonderful combinaHon of transparent songs and musical freedom. The listener gets the feeling of si^ng in the front row, noHcing every nuance and is sucked into the adventure as a journey to the end of a swinging night. ‘Oh Lord thou will soffle’, ‘Living in the Clay’, ‘Li_le tonal song’, ‘A foggy night, they are cinemaHc Htles and that is perhaps what this trio aims for, which is to take the audience with them from the start of the concert to get out of the intoxicaHon only when the last note has sounded …
